At last, after nearly 5 years, one of my favorite bands They Might Be Giants has returned with their newest album The World is to Dig. They've generously released certain tracks on their YouTube and whatnot these past months and now the whole thing is finally on streaming services yaayyy!!!! (i dont get vinyls sorry)
Back in Los Angeles: Nice and mellow, feels like the perfect comeback song
Wu-Tang: Lively, energetic, repetitive, just how I like it
Sleep's Older Sister: The ending is the best part
Ju N'en Ai Pas: FRENCH
Outside Brain: We gettin a lot of earworms this album
Let's Fall in Lava: Only the Johns can make falling in magma sound cool
Telescope: Uhhhhhhh it was alright! - obama puppet
Garbage In: It was ok at first...but then the kazoos kicked in...S tier
Get Down: The funkiest funk that ever funked...reminded me of PaRappa for some reason
New Wave Will Never Die: One of my favorite things about TMBG is how they tend to write the most sensical nonsensical shit as lyrics and make a whole song with them, this song is no exception
Overnight Sensation (Hit Record): Best song on the album, hands down. The music video for this one especially is really great (the Mesopotamians return???? A part of me also sees this as a bit of an allegory for the band as a whole now that I think about it
Character Flaw: Listening to TMBG builds character
Hit The Ground: Good beat
What You Get: Bones mentioned
Slow: Slow, yes, but not necessarily terrible. I enjoy the key shifts (and also one part in particular reminded me of the beginning of Can't Keep Johnny Down so that's cool)
In the Dead Mall: The most lively song about a mall I've ever heard
What the Cat Dragged In: The cat dragged in a banger
They Might Be Feral: And what are we going to do unless they are? (wait wrong song)
Overall, pretty good album would recommended to any person place or thing or nonthing or worm or possum or anybody else
(BOOK was kinda better though....)
